Heart Failure Causes And Symptoms

Heart FailureResearches in the field of medical science have invented various therapies and treatments for heart failure treatment. Heart failure has become quite a common problem nowadays. Thus researchers have found out several ways to check heart failures identifying its early symptoms. Heart failure can happen to people of different ages. This can even happen to young children who already are born with heart defects. Nevertheless, heart diseases and its consequences happen mostly to elderly people. Elderly people are quite prone to having lung or respiratory disorders that affect the valves and muscles of the heart. It may also happen that due to natural changes in the aging body, the pumping function of the heart slows down causing congestion and blockage.

Congestive heart failure is caused by the congestion in the lung. Its causes are quite typical among the aged. The ratio of heart diseases among the elderly people is 1 out of every 100 people. Nevertheless heart diseases are rapidly growing among people because of certain unhealthy habits like smoking, drinking, diet with high fat content and high blood pressure.

Heart failure symptoms are caused because a fluid like substance fills up the lung area. The symptoms can be identified when the patient feels fatigued or breathless after doing some routine work like walking or climbing stairs. The fluid weakens the heart slowly and thus the symptoms become worse. The patient might feel more fatigued or breathless even without doing any work. The fluid filling in the heart not only cause fatigue and breathlessness, but also causes frequent urination, weight gain and cough which worsen at night. Fluid filled lungs can cause acute pulmonary edema which causes this nocturnal cough. If the patient is severely suffering from the acute pulmonary edema then he requires immediate treatment.

There can be various heart failure symptoms but some of the typical and most common symptoms include:
• Breathless or shortness of breath,
• Tiredness or fatigue and
• Swelling in certain parts of the body like legs, ankles, abdomen, feet and even veins in the neck.

Not every heart failure patient suffers from the same symptoms. A patient who had a left heart failure can suffer from breathlessness, nocturnal cough or excessive sweating. However a patient with a right heart failure will normally have abnormal heart rhythm and dullness. Thus the failure of the heart can be of two types, systolic and diastolic. The symptoms can be diagnosed through some tests like echocardiogram, chest X-ray and some others. Proper diagnosis helps in early diagnosis of the disease.

It is important for us to know that heart failure does not mean that the heart has stopped functionally completely, but the heart is unable to keep up with work that it requires to pump blood and distribute to all parts of the body. But it cannot be explained easily. Heart failure is quite complex and it has got various aspects, factors, causes and consequences. Hence immediate support and proper heart failure treatment can help the patient to reverse his condition to normal.
